CDPP in Australia selects Agresso Business World ERP

The Australian Government Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) has selected Agresso’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suite following the conclusion of a comprehensive tender process.

The news follows an extensive evaluation of the Agresso solution from UNIT4 and organisational capabilities of the Agresso business. The Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) is an independent prosecuting service established by the Parliament of Australia to prosecute alleged offences against Commonwealth law, and to deprive offenders of the proceeds and benefits of criminal activity. As a dynamic organisation with around 590 staff and offices in all Australian States and Territories, the CDPP plays a key role ensuring fairness and equity in Australian society through its prosecutorial role.

Cloud set to dominate ERP landscape

It may only make up around 2% of the market at the moment, but Cloud-based ERP is set to grow by about 21% annually through to 2015, according to research firm Forrester.

The analyst firm's State of ERP in 2011 report found that IT departments now have a wider choice of add-ons for existing enterprise applications, and a greater choice in deployment options with Cloud-based offerings having particular appeal. The report notes:

“Now is the perfect time for business process professionals to revisit their current enterprise resource planning (ERP) application commitments and future ERP plans. As the global economy gradually recovers, IT budgets will start to free up, enabling organisations to begin thinking about significantly reinvesting in their administrative and operational apps. Companies investigating the pros and cons of such decisions will face a wider choice of ERP offerings than previously available — particularly in terms of deployment models, where there’s a notable uptick in the number of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) options and managed Cloud offerings.”

Avis Europe takes the right road with Coda Financials

Before selecting Coda Financials from UNIT4, Avis Europe used OLAS - a traditional mainframe system. However, the support costs were becoming prohibitively high and extracting crucial financial data from OLAS was time-consuming and ineffective.

Adrian Steventon, CodaP2P Stream Lead at Avis Europe, commented: “Not only were our support costs rising but also generating reporting data was proving an enormous task – taking up lots of time and resource that could be better employed analysing and interpreting our data....’

Socitm warns councils on outsourcing pitfalls

Extract: "Outsourcing should not be considered an inevitable response to austerity", said Martin Greenwood, the briefing's author. Greenwood said organisations of all sizes should consider collaboration and sharing with other local public services as a "genuine alternative" to outsourcing.

Hampshire County Council is working with supplier UNIT4 to offer a shared services business platform to other local authorities.
